Come Clean!

Whenever I think of those that I love being unwilling to discuss God and the spiritual realm, without thinking you are speaking of  “ghosties and goblins and long-leggedy beasties” – it really upsets me.  They complain “there’s got to be more to life than this”, while remaining adamant that they want nothing to do with faith and trust in a God unseen!  They remain unwilling to listen and so, I have to reluctantly give up trying to persuade them otherwise; instead, I now pray for them each and every day.

I recently received the following prayers,  to intercede for them and I hope the original author, will forgive me, as I reproduce them (in part) here for many more to see (I do not know where to find ‘Kenneth’, whose name appears at the top of the photocopied page I was given) otherwise, I would make direct contact.  My hope is that sharing prayers it is not looked upon as a ‘copyright infringement’ (one can never be sure these days).

Unbelievers do not understand that there is a ‘battle royal’ taking place, in the unseen spiritual world,  for control of the hearts, minds and souls of each and every one of us.  Satan rules (for a time) on earth and so, for those that we hope to encourage to accept God and Jesus into their lives,  we need to pray that the powers of everything ungodly are bound, ensuring their freedom from the control of the powers of darkness.

Prayer:  You spirit(s) blinding the eyes of ____________, you stop what you are doing to keep him/her out of the kingdom of God.  In Jesus’ name, you stop NOW.

Then with a Godly request, pray the following:

Prayer:  Lord, send someone to ___________ with the Word of God.  You know who he/she will listen to.  I claim ____________ for the Kingdom of God.  I believe he/she will receive His salvation and deliverance.  In faith I praise You for it.

There is great power in prayer: do not underestimate it –  persevere with your intercession for any unbeliever in your family or social circle, and trust in God that change will happen.

Clean-up Time!

We have two really large poplar trees in our backyard – apparently they are twenty-five years old – they are not particularly attractive trees, as they are constantly pruning themselves, shedding boughs, twigs and leaves with the slightest breeze.  Messy trees, I call them – because they cause a lot of (clean-up) work. Today the wind (it is so strong, I can hardly call it a summer breeze) is rushing through the leaves, shaking them and dislodging them as it goes; I love the sound of the leaves twisting – turning – shaking, it makes the trees ‘sound’ alive, as they respond to the currents of air coursing through them.  I liken the sound to Gods’ breath as He makes Himself apparent to me – calming and refreshing..

Some of us, in our hearts, are cool-spirited and untidy!  We have habits, and perhaps sins that keep us from being the beauty that God intended us to be; bogged-down by difficulties and overwhelmed by worries.  We have grown too big for our own good; we affect everyone around us with our careless attitudes and spiteful words; we need to be pruned and cleaned up, and in some instances we need to be cut down and replaced with something completely different.  A warmer heart, a cleaner spirit and beautiful attitude that radiates warmth to attract all that is good and clean, not to destroy.

Prayer: As difficult as it may be for us sometimes, Lord, may we learn to leave it to You, trusting that we will be guided through whatever difficulties we may have, no matter how big or how small. May we know that no matter how messy things may get, nothing is too big for You to deal with. We give You thanks for when our trials are over, we will be stronger and closer to You. Amen.

Show You Care!

Philippians 2:14-15 (CEV)

14Do everything without grumbling or arguing. 15Then you will be the pure and innocent children of God. You live among people who are crooked and evil, but you must not do anything that they can say is wrong. Try to shine as lights among the people of this world.

It can be difficult amid adversity and the challenges of day-to-day living,  to ‘shine’ and be a good example, but to do so blesses not only you, but also everyone you encounter throughout the day.  A smile or a kind word can often be the difference between someone having a day in which nothing good has happened to them, to one that lifts their spirit into what they’ll recall as being an awesome day – because somebody cared!

Be the smile in someone’s day today!

Who or What is Love?

Revelation 22:8-9

Now I, John, saw and heard these things.  And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things.

Then he said to me, “See that you do not do that.  For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book.  “Worship God”.   (NKJV)

Who or what is love?  God is ‘Purest Love in purest form’.  Not any human, nor material thing.  God alone is wholly pure and dependable.  God is Love!

Choosing the Right Path in Life!

We’ve had great fun recently, watching the antics of a baby red squirrel in our garden.  The trees provide it with a wonderful obstacle course, sharpening its’ balancing skills and honing (not that they seem to need much) jumping abilities.  Watching it explore the trees is fascinating; it checks out all the branches, finding new routes through the small grove leading to its ‘home’.  Sometimes, the route it takes leads nowhere, at those times it retraces its ‘steps’ and tries another way: still other routes take it to dangerous branches that lead it to nowhere safe; yet it  persists in its exploration until it gets it right.

I liken this to the steps some of us have taken, or continue to take in our daily lives; without the guidance of God and the wisdom of the Bible, we try this way and that, seeking the right path in life that will give us fulfilment, only to be disappointed when we realize we have made the wrong choice, and we have to begin all over again (often again and again and again).   Sometimes the way is difficult; sometimes it takes us into areas that compromise our values and beliefs, while still others challenge us to try new endeavours until we succeed.  We are not perfect beings and we will be wrong at times, the important thing is to NOT give up!  Pick yourself up and start again!  Persistence pays off!

I pray that today, you find the right path in your life, and I pray you will at least, be willing to be willing to want to know more of God and His gifts of peace, comfort, hope, safety and love.

Don’t know what the next step is? It’s easier than you might think.  Earnestly (really mean it) say this little prayer.

Jesus, I want to know you better.  Come into my heart and soul; forgive me my wrongs and grant me an eternal life with you and all of those who already belong to your family.

The next step is to find a church ‘family’ that you feel comfortable in, and join a bible study – as a start.  Get yourself a bible – Contemporary English Version, or The Message,  is written in easy to understand present-day language, and either will give you a better understanding of the life-changing cotents within its pages.

Send me a prayer request, if you wish and I will pray for your persistent and determined “walk”.

Praise the Lord!

When you’re having an ‘ugly day’, it can be so easy to become disgruntled with everything and everyone you encounter: it is so important to not let the negatives take over and drag you down to their level.

The Bible gives sound advice and guidance – I particularly love Psalm 117 – short but VERY much to the point:

Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles!

Laud Him, all you peoples!

For His merciful kindness is great toward us,

And the truth of the Lord endures forever,

Praise the Lord!   (NKJV)

So, whatever your day is ‘throwing at you’ – keep in mind that truth prevails and all that is truth comes from God – so thank Him and hold Him closer than the ‘stuff’ that’s trying to distract and destroy you.

Matthew 18:3 (CEV) –  Then he said: I promise you this. If you don’t change and become like a child, you will never get into the kingdom of heaven.

We had chickadees nesting at the side of our home, making use of a nesting box in a small stand of evergreens, protected from predatory attack and shaded from the elements.  It was delightful to hear and watch their ‘comings and goings’ – then the day came when one was bringing food to the other and I greatly anticipated the day when ‘little ones’ could (possibly) be heard and then seen.  However, sad to say – it seems they’ve ‘flown the coop’, because there seems to be no activity now – my sadness causes me to think that perhaps one of them died, I really have no idea because I cannot go near or touch the nest, just in case it is still in use.  Seems I might have to forego the joy of watching little ones emerge and mature.

God must be so sad when His ‘little ones’ (new Christians) fail in their growth and maturity.  In great anticipation and joy, He must watch us come into His ‘nest’ through salvation, eager to feed upon His word, only to have us fail to grow.  Perhaps, we choose to return to a lifestyle that excludes Him, or one that permits us to ‘think’ we are on the right track, only to move further and further away from Him, until one day we’re gone!  It is not that He no longer hears us, nor sees us, or no longer wants fellowship with us; it is we who have chosen to ignore His presence in our lives thereby, blocking out His influence upon all we think, say or do – He might as well have died, for all the notice we take of Him. He is after all, a God of love and He wants to be needed in our lives – all He asks is that we need Him too.  How sad He must feel to watch us with that great anticipation, hoping to see us grow and become His chosen ones, only to lose us to a life without Him.

Mark 10:15(CEV) – 15I promise you that you cannot get into God’s kingdom, unless you accept it the way a child does.”

In a world full of loss, suffering and evil, it can be challenging to stay focused and loyal to an unseen God even if we lose out on discovering the changes that He can make in our lives; just as much as it is challenging to stay away from a nesting-box to try to discover what has happened and trust all is well; all we can do is trust in a child-like manner, be willing to learn and to hope for better things to come.

Prayer:  Father God, we ask and pray that we always have the strength and commitment needed to stay close to You; to choose to always stay in the shadow of Your wings and Your protection.  In Jesus mighty name, Amen

Help Us!

So – Vancouver lost the game and riots ensued!  What a sad end to the excitement and anticipation!  People hurt and property damaged, all caused by the extreme actions of a few!

Imagine living in a country where riots, persecution of good people and property damage are rampant, on a daily basis.  A friend of ours has family in Egypt – the troubles that were shared through media channels some time ago – have not ended in fact, in many aspects they have further-deteriorated and yet nothing is being reported on the news: it’s a if peace now reigns there!

Here’s an excerpt from a recent message from her:

I would ask everyone to continue to pray for the Christians in Egypt.  So far 17 churches has been burned down since the revolution. When neighbors phone the fire department to report that a church is being set on fire they show up after 2 hours but by that time the church is burned to the ground. The new sect of Islam that I have not heard of before the revolution, is vowing to burn every church in Egypt. They are getting a lot of financial help (in the millions) from Saudi Arabia.

Please continue praying for my family, particularly in the next few weeks, I thank you. They have lost millions of dollars in this unsettled time. They have a large business in Cairo and they have a big project to do but their equipment has been stolen. They have lost every thing even their home, in order to replace the material that has been stolen and they now live in a rented 2-bedroom apartment. The job has to be completed as of July 3. The stealing is still going strong and there is nothing left to sell. Please pray for God’s protection, strength and hope to keep on going until they finish this job. Please to pray for them. (family references removed).

Consider also, other persecuted souls on this earth: The persecuted call for relief from their tormentors.  They feel abandoned and rejected!

a) children being abused by family members

b) children and youth being abducted by and for the sex trade

c) children being used for monetary gain, in ‘sweat shops’ around the world; supplying manufacturers world-wide with low-priced products

d) Christians being tortured and demoralized in countries that do not acknowledge Christian faith, love and respect

e) the poor of the world, being oppressed by ruthless, greedy governments

f) God’s people – good people – are crying and hurting around the world – pray for them without ceasing.

Ask – intercede – on their behalf, for a ‘hedge of protection’ around each one, around their homes, families and businesses.

Matthew 7:7-8  Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

Psalm 51:10  –  Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  (NKJV)

Whenever I check my emails, I see there are numerous messages of indeterminate nature, in the Junk Box!  It doesn’t matter how often I ‘Sweep’ them away or ‘Block’ them, there are still more to replace them the next time I look.  Even the titles of some of these messages make my skin ‘crawl’ and I wish I could completely block them from coming into my ‘box’ – but as it is already set on the highest screening it is obviously inadequate to deal with the influx of ‘mindless garbage’, that still manages to filter through.

Junk mail, reminds me of sin.  It is insidious and ever-flowing.  It respects no boundaries and can be difficult to eliminate from our lives.  It manifests itself in words, actions and deceptions and distractions of all kinds and can seep into our lives despite our meager efforts to block it.

The best and most effective way to clean it up is to call upon God – give it to Him and trust Him for all we’re worth. When we receive Jesus into our lives, He gives us His Holy Spirit, who equips us for the life-long battle of discerning good from bad and right from wrong, often in ways that we would not have recognized or been willing to utilize before that. God’s intervention is the only way to totally clean up our lives. Giving control of everything to Him on a daily basis causes our words, thoughts, and actions to change – they are cleaned up and made acceptable. The junk will not vanish from our lives but we’ll find we become better equipped and more adept in our efforts to recognize it and seek God’s forgiveness and power to change.

Isaiah 1:16-17   “Wash yourselves”, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes.  Cease to do evil, Learn to do good; Seek justice. Rebuke the oppressor.  (NKJV)

In other words, stop doing wrong, hower insignificant it might seem!  God sees and knows all our rights and wrongs!

Prayer:  Father, there are so many lurid distractions around us.  So many people spend their lives sending out these messages; attempting to trap innocent and naïve minds, with their seemingly, captivating baits.  Help us be guided in Your Ways by Your Word.  Each time sin ‘pops up’, let us be able to block it from our lives, keeping our minds, bodies and spirits pure and unpolluted from the refuse and gossip of the internet and the world!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Ants scurry along their pathways, busy working, collecting and storing.  They’re so tiny, as to be insignificant to us, and yet beyond the frantic busy-ness that we humans see, we tend to overlook that their one main purpose in life is to honor, by providing for and defending, their queen!

Oh, that we would be so focused and determined during every waking moment of our days: that our main purpose would be to honor, by serving and defending our sovereign too; but in our case it would be our Lord and Master, our eternal, everlasting King –  Jesus!

Colossians 3:23-24 – And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the rreward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.  (NKJV)
