You Are Never Alone!

Sitting and thinking about what to write, I immediately focused on a friend who is dealing with a major challenge, and to help her all I can do is pray. I say that not to diminish the power of prayer, but to say she is dealing with an obstacle that only she can overcome.

Other friends and I, are all praying for resolve in the situation -assuring her that God is with her and to trust and lean on Him.

In my thoughts an advertisement from years ago popped in to my head – funny how the mind can open old files at seemingly inopportune moments. I pray for her and reassure her that she is never alone and that God is always with her and along with that meditation came an old TV ad for cigarettes – no I don’t smoke – where a mysterious gentleman is strolling dark streets – goodness knows why, I don’t remember – and in the ominous darkness he reaches for, and lights a cigarette and you hear the words – ‘you are never alone with a Strand (ciggy brand)’. I guess it was meant to be his comfort and of course, a sales pitch for the cigarette company.

My point here is that God can be and will be our comfort each and every day, if we choose to let Him. Our wellbeing is His greatest desire and when we allow Him complete control of our lives we are filled with a courage and comfort beyond our understanding.

Joshua 1:5d-6a …. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage. (NKJV)

So there you have it – He tells us clearly in His Word, ‘You are never alone’. Nothing dark and sinister but a comfort and the knowledge that He is with us always.

Whatever is overwhelming – whatever is challenging – God can change it.

Prayer Works………

The power of prayer can work miracles in our lives. Big miracles or small miracles, any or all can come our way if we pray for God’s will into our lives.

I have personally experienced some wonderful blessings myself, by trusting in God’s perfect will for my life.

Not sure what to pray or how to pray? Here are two powerful prayers that can build faith as well as provide much comfort.

For New Direction ……

The Prayer of Jabez

“Oh, that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” 1 Chronicles 4:9-10

The Lord’s Prayer (for all our needs)

Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen! Matthew 6:9b-13

Blessings to you,

Depressed? Help is Near!

Depression is a dreadful condition. It robs you of joy and productivity, as you live each day under a dark cloud. It is easy to give advice such as, ‘get over it’, ‘move on’ or even ‘cheer up’, but depression causes the very opposite as your hope flys out the window, and you struggle with the emotional darkness that saps your energy and enthusiasm for life.

I find music helps. Good music or songs with words that are uplifting. I LOVE to listen to Susan Boyle’s ‘Make me a Channel of Your Peace’ and ‘Perfect Day’. (My friends know this only too well, because they are often my choice to begin our bible studies). The first takes me to a quiet place to reflect and the second causes me to rejoice in another new day. But of course, it is essentially up to me to make the most of it – the day that is.

Psalm 121 offers words to encourage and help you reflect – I will lift my eyes to the hills – from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore. (NKJV)

So, if your day is presently foreboding and difficult to endure, may I suggest you look at the many comforting words that can be found in the Bible. The Psalms are a particular favorite of mine as they address our dispair, our questions and then our thanks, and we gradually see that there is great comfort to be found within the words and pages.

Prayer: We yearn for peace within our troubled spirits, in our broken hearts and circumstances – aand will not give in to the dark thoughts. Instead we will concentrate on Your Word and take comfort in knowing that as we read Your Word, we are being lifted from our dark place into a better place of positive thinking and thankfulness. Amen.

A Gentle Breeze

The touch of God is often so gentle it can be missed, in the busy-ness of our lives.

I don’t have a particular message – but wanted to share the words of a note in my Bible, knowing that they might very well touch the hurting heart of somebody else as they must have mine, when I noted them.

There are many times as I sit and contemplate the Word and pray – for my loved ones and friends, I become aware of a gentle breeze wafting through the window, and I liken it to God visiting and telling me He hears me.

I read the notation in my Bible this morning, I do not recall what prompted me to write it then but I feel led to give it away – perhaps it will be a balm to anyone grieving the loss of someone precious in their lives.

Although that person has gone from our physical world, they now occupy a different world; one that we do not and cannot comprehend. My (Bible) note causes me to think of each of them as a gentle breeze.

‘We will be the gentle breeze that blows; that stirs your hair in it’s passing. A warm caress from a much-loved soul now gone from our present world’.

John 3:5 – 7 I say to you, unless one is born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

I feel I am not making sense as I write – but I believe these words are for at least one person reading this and sense has nothing to do with it. It is for comfort to a hurting heart!

Prayer: I look at the calendar and read September 11! I remember the many souls taken by terror and also the many taken from us by natural causes, Father let Your gentle spirit be the caress each of us needs today. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Pray or Prey!

A recent report, in our local newspaper, gives reason for concern to hikers or even just casual walkers. In an area west of Barrie – north of Angus – a couple preparing for a hike report having been stalked by cougars! (Innisfil Journal, Sept. 6, 2012)

Having left their vehicle to begin their walk they were immediately aware of movement in the undergrowth on either side of the path they were on. In addition to this they heard, what sounded like a whistling noise and felt they were being watched. Deciding to investigate whatever was there and discover what was stopping when they stopped and moving when they did, the man looked into the undergrowth then thought he was imagining things, for looking right back at him was a huge cat: a large cougar, with two others beside it. This sighting was on the outskirts of one large city and bordering another smaller one – not an area where you expect to see these creatures.

His first thought was for his wife, who he ordered back to their vehicle, and then decide how he was going to make it there safely himself. Thankfully, another vehicle suddenly arrived and the sound and that and of doors opening and closing, as more people arrived, saved him. The cats hastily retreated deeper into the bush giving him opportunity to return to the vehicle and safety. He had no doubt that their safety was definitely compromised should the distraction not have occurred. They each realized they had been stalked by the cougars, from the moment they had arrived.

1 Peter 5:8-9 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. (NKJV)

Similarly, the devil stalks each of us during our daily walk. He will creep into our lives and then destroy us, given ample opportunity. He will bide his time, stopping when we stop and moving right alongside us when we move. Planning to overcome and destroy us if we are not vigilant, taking steps to protect ourselves.

God is our over-comer: our Protector, as we grow in faith with Him in our lives, He shows us the safe paths to take; paths that lead us to growth and safety and not to destruction. Jesus is His rescuer, if you will, guiding us and bringing us to safety, just as the arrival of the second vehicle brought safety and escape from potential harm to this couple.

Prayer: Father, help us to be constantly aware of our surroundings and not be complacent in any way as we trust in You. Amen
