A God Moment

The Sun Returns

The Sun Returns

Sitting quietly in prayer, I ask – ‘Lord, help me to be the best that I can be for You today’.

I then busy myself, checking email messages. As I do this a box pops up on the screen. “What is this?” I wonder. “I didn’t hit any keys”, but as I look I realize it says, ‘Request Wisdom to Know’. “Excuse me”? “What is that?”

Curious, I open the box and then see that it was an old message; one where I had sent a request for a particular book, in order to write a review.

Silly me! Sometimes, attention can be captured unexpectedly and at very opportune moments. In this instance, I felt it could very well have been God letting me know, He had received my prayer and He responded in a way that certainly got my attention.

A God moment! I love when that happens. There is no explanation as to why this message suddenly appeared – I only know that the wording hit home in a profoundly reassuring way.

Be blessed.

How Will I Know?

Matthew 24:36 But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. (NKJV)

The media has shown over the years, people who have predicted the end of the world. We’re still here to proclaim them as eccentric. It is sad, because they affect the integrity of the truth of the Bible. Believers in Christ are not fooled. In fact, the Bible is clear – we will not know the time or date of the end of the world. So why would anyone, with wisdom, fool themselves and try to delude others by declaring that they do? We are to choose to have faith in God and believe in Jesus Christ as His son and our risen Savior.

Matthew 24:42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. (NKJV)

The Bible gives us clear direction on this. In Matthew 24:4-7
And Jesus answered and said to them: Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. (NKJV)

We are called to trust in, and believe in God and His Son, Jesus Christ. Faith is to trust the words of the Bible. They are God-breathed. They are not of man. Yet, thousands still choose to follow their own passions. Many choose another God. Time will tell whether we have chosen wisely. For some the end will be a time of celebration, while for others it will prove to be a time of great mourning. The sad fact is that by then it will be too late to change direction.

Matthew 24:29-30 Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. (NKJV)

Many Were Baptized

At our church yesterday, ten people dedicated their lives to God, by being baptized.

A public proclamation that God is now the controller of their lives. They no longer want ‘to do’ life their own way, nor do they want to conform to the ways of the world.

It was a public announcement that they have chosen to be like Jesus, and want to change their ways – – or at least – – have decided to follow a different path in life. It doesn’t make life all rosy, but it does give each one an inner strength and peace that unbelievers cannot understand or experience.

Trusting the One and Only unseen God truly does make a difference to your life, but unless you are willing to change and trust His way – nothing I say will convince you to live any other way. You will choose to stay where you are – – suffering all that you are dealing with, feeling all alone.

Psalm 121:1-3 you will find the God of help for those who seek Him….I will lift up my eyes to the hills – from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. (NKJV)

It’s a Cold, Cold Day

It’s a cold, cold day, here today. Snow squalls are continually driving a path through the area, and brutally cold temperatures are the order of the day. Unforgiving weather, is what I call it. Exposure to these elements for too, long, would mean you would be dealing with frostbite, as well as certain death, if exposed for too long.

The world is filled with deadly conditions too. Abortion. Rape. Abuse. Deception. Theft. Prostitution. Human trafficking. Child labor. The list can almost be endless.

Billy Graham, aged 93, and still a man of God, with Godly values, prays for our human frailties and I print his prayer here, for all who would like to pray it for themselves and our earthly world and governments.

Billy Graham’s Prayer

THIS MAN SURE HAS A GOOD VIEW OF WHAT’S HAPPENING NOT ONLY TO THE U.S. BUT ALSO TO OUR WORLD!

‘Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable… We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from sin and Set us free. Amen!’

The Unknown

Hurricane Sandy continues to barrel through the Atlantic states as well as Ontario and Quebec.  The storm has not yet released its’ grip: rain continues to fall and cloud shrouds the sun – hiding it from view.

We were told to be prepared for the unknown, and media bombarded us with advice on safety and emergency preparedness.  There had not been a storm of this magnitude nor ‘makeup’ in recorded history.  So we ensured ample stocks of drinking water, food, candles, torches and an emergency radio.  Better be safe than sorry, right?

We prayed that God would protect us from dire effects of the oncoming hurricane.  Asked Him to place a hedge of protection around our loved ones, on their homes and work as well as ourselves.  Light faded and we waited for the destructive winds to begin and the rain to fall.

We live in a modular home and held our breath and prayed we and our home would survive the mega storm.  We all did!  Not only that – the storm barely touched this area, which to us was unbelievable, given the dire reports being issued.  God truly came through for us.

When we reach the point of leaving this earth – as by death –  we need to be similarly prepared for the unknown that awaits us.  We cannot see faith, or God or Jesus, but we believe and pray earnestly as we trust in the promises of the Bible.  Just as we believed the media reports and advice, and responded to the emergency preparedness plans for our physical survival, we should be paying equal attention to what the Bible advises for our (spiritual) survival and follow the preparedness plans found within its pages.

Meanwhile, I pray for those whose lives have been devastated by Hurricane Sandy.  We can’t always understand the why’s when disaster or tragedy happens to us – but I know from experience that it is imperative to not give up on God.  I have been rescued many times from big and small calamities as I trusted God to bring me to a better place. It was not always an easy journey, but it has definitely been a fruitful one: as little by little, God has helped me retrace my steps and has rescued me from the deep unknowns I found myself in.

Hang in there!  Don’t give up on God!

Wanted! Expansion!

Many folk swear by the power of the Prayer of Jabez; proclaiming how it has changed their lives.  Little wonder.  After all, they are asking for their lives to be radically made-over…….made bigger……perhaps, better!  We have no way of knowing how or what will be affected in our lives, once we commit to praying this little prayer – but be certain of one thing – your life will change!

“Oh that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may cause no pain’.  (1 Chronicles 4:10)

So asking to have increase in one’s life; we should also remember that this might not bring what we have in mind!  It might not just be more of what we already have!  It could thrust us into uncomfortable places, situations or decisions, thus – we need to also be sure to ask God to stay with us – to keep His hand upon us and so be directed away from any wrongdoings, that might bring dishonor or deep concern to family and friends, as well as self.

Prayer:  Abba – take captive, our actions and our words to edify and enrich hearts that need You.  Let Your blessings be used honorable ways and may we be truly thankful for the small as well as big blessings.  Amen.

Pray for our Children

This is a repeat of my posting on www.devotionalchristian.com and http://pattersmatters.wordpress.com – because I am incensed that our children are being brain-washed by social, media and fashion expectations AND – exploitation.  Perhaps this program was especially biased and our children are not being desensitized as deeply as the program suggested – but from what I saw and heard our children need prayer.  I don’t apologise – I am too upset and we need to be more aware of what is happening to our young.

A recent program on Doc Zone covered how media and fashions trends are affecting our children and youth. They called it ‘the sexualization of our children’ and it was not a pretty picture.

Fashion for children – girls in particular – has been dressing them, more and more, in miniature editions of adult clothing – portraying a tiny woman and not a child. This has affected their thinking and eventually their actions and emotions, that are devoid of what is good and truly respectful. They do not respect themselves; boys respect girls even less, especially if denied physical satisfaction……on and on the program covered (too bad the girls clothing didn’t too) how fashion, media and magazines and models, as well as entertainment ‘idols’ emit the idea that exploiting a child to be sexually attractive is what life is all about. Nothing else matters! WRONG!

I share this for all the children and youth that might be exposed to this Christian website …… please know that you are a child and a child should NOT be expected to be a small adult! You are meant to have fun – good clean childlike fun and not be an enticing piece of flesh for somebody elses pleasure.  That is not what life is all about!

I was sickened by what I heard on this program – children are being used in the most sickening ways and are losing respect for themselves and for each other. What kind of society is this going to produce a few years hence?

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 tells us a different story of what regard for self and others is all about…….

Love makes you patient and kind

Love is not jealous, love does not brag

Is not proud, love is not rude nor selfish

Love does not become angry

Love does not remember things you have done wrong

Love does not like people who tell lies, only truth

Love patiently accepts and trusts

Love always hopes and always remains strong.

True love never ends but grows stronger each day. (ICV)

It is NOT about selling yourself for the pleasure of others, but all about loving who and what you are, and treating others as you want to be treated.

Prayer: God help us in all our ways and let us be guided along a true and righteous path, knowing that this will produce good results. Amen!

Depressed? Help is Near!

Depression is a dreadful condition. It robs you of joy and productivity, as you live each day under a dark cloud. It is easy to give advice such as, ‘get over it’, ‘move on’ or even ‘cheer up’, but depression causes the very opposite as your hope flys out the window, and you struggle with the emotional darkness that saps your energy and enthusiasm for life.

I find music helps. Good music or songs with words that are uplifting. I LOVE to listen to Susan Boyle’s ‘Make me a Channel of Your Peace’ and ‘Perfect Day’. (My friends know this only too well, because they are often my choice to begin our bible studies). The first takes me to a quiet place to reflect and the second causes me to rejoice in another new day. But of course, it is essentially up to me to make the most of it – the day that is.

Psalm 121 offers words to encourage and help you reflect – I will lift my eyes to the hills – from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore. (NKJV)

So, if your day is presently foreboding and difficult to endure, may I suggest you look at the many comforting words that can be found in the Bible. The Psalms are a particular favorite of mine as they address our dispair, our questions and then our thanks, and we gradually see that there is great comfort to be found within the words and pages.

Prayer: We yearn for peace within our troubled spirits, in our broken hearts and circumstances – aand will not give in to the dark thoughts. Instead we will concentrate on Your Word and take comfort in knowing that as we read Your Word, we are being lifted from our dark place into a better place of positive thinking and thankfulness. Amen.

Thankful for Everything

I have a very energetic mind and need constant variety in my life, to stop me from becoming disenchanted with my lot!

It occurred to me a long time ago, that I easily get bored with life, when I feel ‘stuck in a rut’.

Then I considered how important it is to be thankful for all situations. I thought about how we grow when faced with adversity! We problem solve and accomplish much more in order to survive or get through to the other side of the challenge. We focus on the solution instead of the problem.

When life is dealing the right cards and all is relatively good, we can easily become complacent and then slip into a pity-party mentality, when we view our lives as being mundane.

One day, listening to news reports of war-torn areas around the globe, a light bulb suddenly went on, and I thanked God I was not living there with the deprivation of conflict. My ordinary life, which I sometimes consider dull, was at once a blessing. I realized that if it was taken from me I would miss it! My daily chores and lifestyle would be craved more than anything else.

I have endured and survived the horror or losing every material thing in my life, and at the time it was an absolute nightmare; however, all the things I lost were quickly replaced as time passed. My emotional turmoil was not so quickly healed, but again, as time passed it happened.

I would not want to live parts of my life again. There have been some dreadful moments of rejection and worse, but thankfully, there have been more beautiful moments and they more than compensate for the bad ones.

I now view each day as a blessing. One to be enjoyed to the fullest because I can. I sometimes, slip back to imagining times when my life was not so ordinary, and I certainly do not want to dwell there for long. I am thankful for where God has brought me and for the people He has placed in my life. I am thankful for my sons and their beautiful families: for my step-children and their families. I have a husband who respects and encourages me. He loves me despite my faults. I have friends that I trust and enjoy spending time with. My earthly family has grown over the years and I am glad for each person. Why on earth would I wish for anything else?

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, Rejoice always, pray without ceasing in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (NKJV)

If that is God’s will for me, I will stick with that and follow His guidance, after all, where would I be without Him in my life? I really don’t want to ‘go’ there!

Prayer: Lord God, it is so easy to wish we were on the ‘other side of the fence’. The trouble is that when we get there things are never as rosy as we expect them to be. Help us to be thankful and content with what we have – as long as we are not in abusive situations. Let us be aware of how we would feel, should everything be taken away from us. Then we would crave our mundane lives back and be truly thankful.

Grace not Patience!

My timely advice today is:

Pray for Grace not Patience, even Wisdom is better to ask for than patience!

My friends will tell you that each time they prayed for patience the trials that they wanted to stop – just increased. How else can we learn? Yikes!

So we all determined we were praying for the wrong thing and switched. We never pray for patience now. It does not mean we do not suffer trials but at least we are no longer contributing to them!

Have a grace-filled day! 🙂
