A Christmas Miracle

Today, I feel burdened!  We have a friend who has major health issues.  She and her husband have been estranged for years.  The sadness, I feel, is for her children and the fact that they have not been permitted contact with their mother for many years.  The sadness, is also due to the choices they have each made to not decide for themselves, to contact her.  They are all adults, but have had their minds and hearts hardened due to the ongoing negative comments, made by their father of their mother.

So this posting is to ask you for prayer for this lady!

It is to ask God for a Christmas miracle for Christina.

It is for prayer for reconciliation for this family (mother and children).

It is to ask God for His peace, grace and wisdom to rule supreme in all their hearts and minds.

It is to ask for God’s spirit of love and healing to fill the hearts, minds, bodies and spirits of each member of this family, including the father.

It is to ask for A Christmas Miracle for Christina!

Thank you, and may God bless you as you pray for them.

Teach the Little Children!

1 John 3:2 – Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known.  But we know that when He appears we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.  (NIV)

Robins frequent our garden; for them it is a small haven providing food and refreshment: our lawns are safe for them to feed on, and birdbaths provide them with water to drink and to bathe in.  Imagine my delight recently, upon witnessing a robin bathing contentedly, until disturbed by another robin alighting upon the birdbath.  My immediate response was to expect trouble – being territorial, I expected the first robin to ‘kick up a rumpus’, on having its’ space invaded – however, I was in for a further delight;  both robins began to bathe, one seemingly hesitantly – splashing and cavorting in the water` – and it was then I realized this was a young robin, and it had joined a parent bird and was actually learning to bathe!  It’s flutterings were minimal to begin with – it kept losing its’ equilibrium – slipping and then regaining its’ composure – before it attempted more wing flapping and fluttering!  Little by little, it was getting all the moves right – eventually getting its’ whole body wet, just like its’ parent, and no longer just paddling in a bewildered fashion.  It was learning by mimicking every parental move!

God is present for us, similarly if we will only take notice of His direction.  He welcomes us into His Word refreshing us and guiding us – teaching us all the right moves.  The bible contains all that we need to learn (sometimes, just in the nick of time) to get our lives right – bathing in His Grace and Mercy, and in the water of life that Jesus gives us.  No more “fluttering” and stumbling in dry places, but a complete refreshing in all that a life filled with Jesus, can give us.  Praise the Lord for His provision.

Prayer:  Abba, we thank you that you show us all the right moves, if we choose to copy the examples you give us in Your Word.  We thank you for provision, for safety and for the kind of perseverance and Love, that only You can provide.

Distress Call

The quiet of early morning was broken suddenly by numerous loud distress calls from robins at the back of our house.  The usual calm of their early morning routine – feeding, bathing and teaching their young, had been disturbed by the arrival of three large crows, and further investigation revealed the cause of the alarm calls – the crows had one of the baby robins!   The crows – dark and menacing, determined and much larger than the robins, had destroyed another little innocent in their quest for domination and appeased appetites, whatever the cost.  They must seem to be akin to ‘black devils’ in the bird world – loud and dangerous.

God must be similarly distressed, when He loses one of us to sin: with its immense power to draw us into its destructive darkness; it pervades and tears apart innocent hearts and minds, leaving nothing but a few scraps of our former self; our spirit undermined, and our credibility often shattered because we were led astray or abducted by a destructive power, much stronger than ourselves.

God outlines very clearly, in the Bible, a very strong warning that we should pay attention to at all times, together with a direction to protect ourselves with His armour each day, to be prepared for the fiery ‘arrows’ of the devil and his minions.

1 Peter 5:8 ‘Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour’.

Ephesians 6:10 17 ….. let the mighty strength of the Lord make you strong.  Put on all the armour that God gives, so you can defend yourself against the devil’s tricks.  We are not fighting against humans.  We are fighting against forces and authorities and against rulers of darkness and spiritual powers in the heavens above.  So put on all the armour that God gives.  Then when that evil day comes (the present or the day of judgment), you will be able to defend yourself.  And when the battle is over, you will still be standing firm.  Be ready!  Let the truth be like a belt around your waist, and let God’s justice protect you like armour.  Your desire to tell the good news about peace should be like shoes on your feet.  Let your faith be like a shield, and you will be able to stop all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Let God’s saving power be like a helmet, and for a sword use God’s message that comes from the spirit.

So, please understand that evil (as well as good) is all around us, and so each day we need to be very aware of our surroundings and the people with whom we come into contact.  Many are good and kind and mean us no harm, but there are those who have dark minds and intentions, and because they have no conscience regarding harm they do to others, we need to be ‘on our guard’, and learn to be discerning and wise – lest we also, fall prey to a dark, menacing and powerful person with destructive thoughts and intentions.

Prayer:  Abba, let us always stay close to You.  Protect us from all that is not safe.  Help us to humbly submit to Your Love and direction and develop Your discernment and wisdom.  We don Your armour willingly, knowing that it will protect us from all that is not of You.  Amen.
