Restoration

Jeremiah 30:17;For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds, says the Lord. (NKJV)

I look at my desk and see chips in the veneer; and yes, you are right – that tells you it is not solid wood. It fitted my needs, when I bought it.

I do have a remedy for the damage; a small bottle of stain. It came with the purchase. I can readily disguise the small areas of damage, making the desk surface look new again.

Christians can become flawed too, but these misdemeanors (or sins) can be obvious. The Bible has specific instructions on what is proper behavior for God’s people. Repair (or forgiveness) in these instances has to come from God. His mercy and grace can repair any spiritual imperfections.

Just as I return the desktop to its former beauty; God can do the same for us.

Let Him restore you today. He can, if you will let Him.

Overwhelmed, But Not Beaten

I am certain, there are many of us, that can relate to the sense of feeling overwhelmed, by daily circumstances.

You know the things: Job loss. Broken relationships. Financial needs. Illness. Each one of these can throw your daily routine into anything but……routine.

You lose focus. Feel hopeless and helpless. Don’t know what to do next; in fact, you wonder what will ‘hit’ you next, when so many things in your life keep zapping you – and they’re not good things.

For any unbelievers, trials can be daunting. However, followers of Jesus, can take comfort in knowing that He will guide and encourage, as needs arise. He helps us to be overcomers, knowing that He allows nothing into our lives that we cannot handle. Often we cry out to God as if toe say, “Hey – I’ve had enough. When is this going to end?”

The answer to that is ‘when it is time for the end’……….not much help while you’re going through ‘stuff’. The trick is to persevere. To not give up. Resist the temptation to try an easier route and let God work His wonders according to His timing.

Take a break, by putting on music you love. Read a good book. Spend time in your garden, or take a walk. Anything to keep your mind on positives. Even though, you might not be feeling thankful, look back on your life and count the blessings you have experienced. Be thankful for each one. You will find that, little by little, the despondency will lift as you dwell on good things.

I recently heard this. When trouble besets you and disaster strikes, plan to be thankful and positive. When you do this you will find that is something the darkness did not take from you.

Be blessed and be comforted in knowing that God loves you, and always will. He is with you, even in the worst times. Believe this and hang on to it – always.

DO NOT WORRY

Calm amid the Storm

Calm amid the Storm

2 Corinthians 12:9 ..My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness”. (NKJV)

Ahh: Worry. Some folk worry even when there is nothing for them to worry about. They are concerned that they won’t be equipped, or ready, to handle the next crisis in their lives.

I’ve heard that, “Worry is like a rocking chair – it is always in motion but never gets you anywhere”. (Excerpt taken from Barrie Free Methodist Church book of devotionals for Lent. Day 9)

We tend to concern ourselves with everything. Not that it is a bad thing, because we need to be able to cope in all situations, but to constantly focus on the negatives in life, will inevitably attract more of the same. So what is the solution?

Well, one very powerful way is to lean on God, and commit (or give) everything to Him: not trying to “go it alone”.

There are many passages in the Bible to encourage us in this.

Matthew 6:31-34 tells us: To not worry about what we will eat, or drink, or wear. God knows that we need all these basics, so we should concentrate more on the kingdom of God: that is – our eternal or spiritual life, for when we do that all our other needs will be met. “So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be taken care of”.

We are, therefore, to take one day, one moment at a time and trust God for everything. Worry accomplishes nothing but more worry.

So Lord, help us to follow You. To trust You and lean on You in the good times, as well as the bad times. Let us trust that Your grace is sufficient for each of us, as we give our daily concerns to You. Keep us away from the rocking chairs in our lives, and lead us in Your way. Amen

What Is Church?

IMG_0117I have taken this message from The Daily Bread. It is an excellent message, written by John Stuart. Thank you, John, for your uplifting visionary words.

Luke 13:18-19 – Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air perched in its branches.” (NIV)

I find it amazing to think that Christianity is actually the world’s largest faith. About one-third of our planet’s population is connected to Christ, and each year, that number is growing all over the earth. Beginning on a hillside in Galilee two thousand years ago with just a couple of hundred followers, Christ’s ministry has expanded and increased throughout the centuries. In every nation on this planet, there is a Christian community. The gospel has been preached in every corner on earth. The mustard seed of God’s kingdom, which was planted so long ago, now has people of every nation living in its branches. There are currently more Christians on earth than at any other time in humankind’s history. Christ’s life, work, and ministry continue to grow. It is a faith that cannot be stopped; it is a teaching that cannot be curtailed.

Churches are springing up everywhere. Old buildings may be closing, but new fellowships of faith are being planted. Christ’s mission never stops, and despite what western media or anti-religious groups express about the decline of Christianity, the numbers across the world prove them to be false prophets. Western Christianity is being transformed, and a rebirth of faith is being experienced. The church changes as each century comes and goes, but one thing remains constant: Christ’s people are growing numerically and spiritually across this planet in every generation.

Sometimes, we western Christians get downhearted about declining congregational numbers and moral standards of society. We get hung up on finances and money instead of being inspired by faith and mission. All that we are negatively experiencing are the birth pangs of a new twenty-first-century church. Christ will not let His people down; Christ will not let His mission die.

So let’s rejoice, because throughout the earth, more people will be brought closer to Christ today and give their hearts to His kingdom.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, Your work on earth continues each day, and new souls are saved for Your kingdom. Thank You for allowing us to be a part of Your great commission. Help us to reach out to other people in charitable and cheerful ways, so that they may also be drawn closer to You. In Your holy name, we pray. Amen.

It’s a Cold, Cold Day

It’s a cold, cold day, here today. Snow squalls are continually driving a path through the area, and brutally cold temperatures are the order of the day. Unforgiving weather, is what I call it. Exposure to these elements for too, long, would mean you would be dealing with frostbite, as well as certain death, if exposed for too long.

The world is filled with deadly conditions too. Abortion. Rape. Abuse. Deception. Theft. Prostitution. Human trafficking. Child labor. The list can almost be endless.

Billy Graham, aged 93, and still a man of God, with Godly values, prays for our human frailties and I print his prayer here, for all who would like to pray it for themselves and our earthly world and governments.

Billy Graham’s Prayer

THIS MAN SURE HAS A GOOD VIEW OF WHAT’S HAPPENING NOT ONLY TO THE U.S. BUT ALSO TO OUR WORLD!

‘Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable… We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from sin and Set us free. Amen!’

Change Your Life

If you are struggling with life or are in a situation that you are unable to control; may I suggest you open a Bible? If you do not own one, a visit to your local library will fill that need.

Not only can you find guidelines on how to live a good life, but you can also find encouragement and wisdom, to help you make better decisions.

For instance, in Philippians 3:18-20

Many people live like enemies of the cross of Christ. I have often told you about them, and it makes me cry to tell you about them now. The way they live is leading them to destruction. Instead of serving God, they do whatever their bodies want. They do shameful things, and they are proud of it. They think only about earthly things. But our homeland is in heaven, and we are waiting for our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, to come from heaven. (International Children’s Version)

There is a better way to live than disrespecting yourself, your body or other people. God, who is a God of pure love explains in the following passages –

Take a look at 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a where it tells us what true love is like. Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and is not proud. Love is not rude, is not selfish, and does not become angry easily. Love does not remember wrongs done against it. Love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth. Love patiently accepts all things. It always trusts, always hopes and always continues strong. Love never ends. (ICV)

So if you are not treating yourself this way, or somebody you know is not treating you this way; moreso, if you are not acting this way towards the people who love you – perhaps you need to reconsider your lifestyle!

May God bless you and keep you safe.

John 3:16

You know, I have to confess I don’t understand how God was willing to send His Son to die for me, and how Jesus would agree to do such a thing.

I don’t understand the agony of the Father and every angel in heaven as they watched Jesus suffer and die.

I don’t understand the intense love for ME that kept Jesus on the cross till the end.

I don’t understand it, but it sure does make life worth living.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should
not perish, but have everlasting life.

Wanted! Expansion!

Many folk swear by the power of the Prayer of Jabez; proclaiming how it has changed their lives.  Little wonder.  After all, they are asking for their lives to be radically made-over…….made bigger……perhaps, better!  We have no way of knowing how or what will be affected in our lives, once we commit to praying this little prayer – but be certain of one thing – your life will change!

“Oh that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may cause no pain’.  (1 Chronicles 4:10)

So asking to have increase in one’s life; we should also remember that this might not bring what we have in mind!  It might not just be more of what we already have!  It could thrust us into uncomfortable places, situations or decisions, thus – we need to also be sure to ask God to stay with us – to keep His hand upon us and so be directed away from any wrongdoings, that might bring dishonor or deep concern to family and friends, as well as self.

Prayer:  Abba – take captive, our actions and our words to edify and enrich hearts that need You.  Let Your blessings be used honorable ways and may we be truly thankful for the small as well as big blessings.  Amen.

The Comfort of Psalm 23

In times of trouble or despair, or when you have a need for reassurance – in the form of a spiritual ‘hug’, look no further than Psalm 23

The Lord is my Shepherd (relationship)

I shall not want (supply)

He makes me to lie down in green pastures (rest)

He leads me beside the still waters (refreshment)

He restores my soul (healing)

For His names’ sake ((purpose)

Yea, though I walk through the valley – of the shadow of death (testing)

I will fear no evil (protection)

For You are with me (faithfulness)

Your rod and Your staff comfort me (discipline)

You prepare a table before me, in the presence of my enemies (hope)

You anoint my head with oil (consecration)

My cup runs over (abundance)

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life (blessing)

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.  (security)

Prayer:  We may not always know the right way to live, or how to make right choices, but in these times lead us to Your Word and to the comfort we can find in Psalm 23.

My God of Love

I was recently ‘enlightened’ about the horrific lives some females can be and are still subjected to where the God their society follows approves brutal cruelty at the whim of males.  Where even a baby, if female, can be left in the desert to die or live – whatever is God’s will,  What kind of God is that?

The God of Christian believers, is the God of Love, Respect, Kindness, Patience, Provision, Gentleness and much, much more.  He guides us by His Holy Spirit in all that we think, say and do.  He strengthens and comforts and is always ready to listen to our prayers and supplications.  He is a God of Forgiveness.  Nothing is too much for Him to deal with.  When we ask anything earnestly in prayer in Jesus Name, for help of any kind or for forgiveness for wrongs, He is there for us.

Revelation 21:4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying.  There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.  (NKJV)

My heart cries for women and children around the world who are being abused, tortured, raped and worse, in the name of a God who does not hear them or care.  How can a God be cruel to some and not to others?  That is control!

Isaiah 25:8  He will swallow up death forever, and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces.  (NKJV)

Prayer:  Lord God, who cares for even the smallest mite on earth, I implore You to enter the hearts and minds of the deceived of this world and show them that there is a better way to live.  In Jesus Name, Amen!
